4 Tips for Adjusting to Daylight Saving Time
As a Long Beach Compounding Pharmacy, we know Spring doesn’t only mark the beginning of warmer temperatures and the blooming of flowers. It also brings along Daylight Saving Time.
On Sunday March 13th, it’s necessary for everyone to turn their clocks forward an hour. Here are 4 tips to help transition into Daylight Savings Time for all Long Beach Compounding Pharmacy patients.
1. Before springing forward, try stepping back!
More than a third of Americans are chronically sleep deprived. If you’re part of this group of people, it’ll probably be relatively easy for you to fall asleep. However, if you aren’t sleep deprived, we have a useful tip for you. Why not keep yourself on a sleep schedule by gradually drawing back your normal bedtime? Before the time change, go to bed 15 minutes earlier. This extra 15 minutes may prevent you from feeling groggy the next morning.
2. Practice good pre-sleeping habits.
There are several things people do before bed that prevent them from falling asleep quickly or sleeping soundly. To ensure that you get the best sleep possible, there are several things you can try. Try turning off electronic devices an hour before bed, avoiding eating or drinking just before bed, or committing to a consistent pre-sleep ritual like taking a warm bath.
3. Get out and exercise!
The extra hour of light Daylight Saving Time can be best put to use with exercising. Exerting yourself physically tires your body out, making you crave sleep. However, make sure that you keep a three-hour window between exercise and bedtime so that you have time to wind down. Without this relaxation period, your heart rate could be too high to fall asleep quickly.
4. Be a vigilant driver.
Springing forward is very dangerous for drivers. However, without their normal amount of sleep, people often run late to work and school thus making speeding more likely to happen. Be cautious! Make sure to avoid busy roads or cars that seem to be going too fast.
